Analysis

My video analysis

Overall, I think I did quite well with planning out the places and establishments that I should film, as I wanted to show my viewers the most visited places in Brick Lane. By doing so, this would inspire others to visit the same places, to create more memories with friends and family, whilst being in this part of Tower Hamlets. Therefore, this type of footage relates to my theme of ‘How Brick Lane creates memories’, as myself and my friend show the attractions that we went to which we remember doing as something enjoyable and fun, whilst completing our project.

I used an app called ‘Capcut’ to edit my video for this part of the assignment. The reason why I chose to edit on this app is because I’m quite familiar with this software, as I have used this app before to edit videos from my phone, on my Mac. The app let me add music and text to my film, which I was planning to do for this element, as this would create dialogue and a theme for the audience to listen to whilst watching. I was also able to cut out the noise from the original videos that I took, which was what I intending to do, so that the viewers wouldn’t be distracted by the background noise.

In order to improve for the future, I should try out a different software to edit on. This would take me out of my comfort zone, as I would also like to increase my skills set, in the digital world. I would also prefer to film on a camera with a tripod, as this would make my footage look even more professional.

My creative writing analysis

For my creative writing element, I chose to write a letter about a woman called Catherine that has lived in Brick lane (Tower Hamlets) her whole life, where she met her partner Arthur, that passed away fifth teen years ago. She talks about how Brick Lane has helped her keep the memories which she created with her partner, before his death. In the letter, Catherine describes the attractions in Brick Lane and briefly talks about how much she has been reminded of Arthur by visiting the places in the borough.

For this part of the assignment, I believe I have done well with describing the atmosphere that Brick lane creates for an individual, as well as talk about some of the bars, restaurants and markets located in this part of Tower Hamlets. Therefore, this would give the viewers a better understanding on how my creative writing outlines the attractions and hospitality sides of Brick Lane. However, I could improve on just focusing on one establishment in Brick lane, as this would give me a better chance to describe one place in depth, rather than just speak about plenty of attractions without a lot of detail.

My web-design analysis

In order to choose a theme for my website, I had a variety of choices to choose from as you can see in the image above. I wanted my site to look quite simplistic yet intriguing at the same time, so I decided to go with the template on the top left. I was able to customise my page with the type of font, layout and widgets by adjusting each one with the tools on the ‘dashboard’. I chose to include speech bubbles for every post on my page, as this would allow the viewers to leave comments/reviews about each content that I included on my website.

I then looked at a website for Tower Hamlets to see which kind of theme the site had and how it was laid out. By doing this, it gave me some ideas on how I could design my website and what kind of widgets I should include on my webpage. I looked at the colours as well to see if mine suited the borough I was given to do on Myblog, as I wanted to ensure that the template I had chosen in the image above suites the type of style Brick lane represents.

My audio analysis

The purpose of my audio content is to tell others which parts of Brick Lane myself and my friend visited, as well as describe the attractions we established by following small streets in Brick Lane which directed us in so many different places. I decided to also mention the prices of food in my audio content, as this would tell the audience how cheap it is to eat out in this part of Tower Hamlets.

The image above is a screenshot of the app I used to edit my audio content called, ‘Audio Editor’. I did this on my iPhone, as have already downloaded the same app before for other pieces of sound content. The app let me cut out errors that I made in my voice memo, for example stutters and long pauses. Therefore, this helped me shorten my audio content, by only including the relevant pieces of information, that related to Brick Lane.

I experimented with some background music for my audio content, however I found it quite distracting whilst tying to hear myself speaking. This was due to the music standing out more than my voice, as the song didn’t relate to my theme and style.

I used my voice memo app on my phone to record my audio content, as I have done this before which means that I’m familiar with how to record successfully, without struggling to do so. However, for my next project I would want to rent out some sound equipment to record an audio piece next time, which would make me more familiar with different technology equipment, as this would also prepare myself for the future. This would improve my performance by showing others how I could use more than one piece of equipment, to record sound.

Overall analysis

I believe I did quite well in this project, compared to my previous Myblog assignment. This was because I made myself more familiar with the site and tools, in order to edit and build up my page. I do feel more confident with using this site, as I know how to work my way around creating a blog page, by using the type of style I want.

Im planning to use more equipment and software in future assignments to record/edit videos and sound, as I wouldn’t want to just use my phone again. By doing this, it would help me increase my abilities and skills, by being more knowledgable in the digital world.

I enjoyed creating content for each element, as I thought it was very entertaining capturing different places, whilst experiencing the service and foods that I have never had before. I would definitely take another trip to Brick Lane, as I found the atmosphere and hospitality side very appealing, and comforting to be in.
